Paddle Mauritius - Jun 22 to 29, 2025
Next Level Kayaking and South Africa Surf Ski are pleased to present our Paddle Mauritius downwind tours!
These trips aim to introduce you to tropical downwind paddling in a safe and inclusive way while experiencing the rich natural beauty, food and culture on the island of Mauritius. Unwind, bring your partners or family members and soak everything up without the pressure of a race. This is pure immersion and paddling indulgence!
Frequented by trade winds, Mauritius sits close to East Africa and the warm current streams from the Indian Ocean. Surrounded by a ring of protective reef, Mauritius initially offers paddlers a number of bay or lagoon-style environments close to shore, graduating to the shoulder waves and bouncier conditions of the many natural reef passes, and finally the groundswell and thrill of open water downwinds out at sea. Paddling sessions can start from the beach right outside our resort, we will also mobilise east and west to suit the group and the forecast. Mauritius offers the flexibility to mix and match conditions to suit your comfort level, and also challenge you as your boundaries change and confidence increases during the trip. A stepwise approach to tackling these paddling environments with coaches who have a track record of nurturing developing paddlers gives you a unique setting to enhance your surfski skills. Our Mauritius trips will operate with a high coach to paddler ratio to maximise safety, enjoyment and progression.
We have a pool of experienced coaches available for our Paddle Mauritius tours, including waterman Barry Lewin from South Africa Surf Ski and Ben Maynard & Roz Barber from Next Level Kayaking. Barry has paddled, competed and coached for more than a decade including numerous times in Mauritius, with Ben & Roz competing and paddling there from 2015-2018, giving you a unique breadth and depth of experience in the local conditions.
Off the water, Mauritius is a cultural melting pot with French and Creole influences and lush hinterlands to explore alongside spice, tea and rum plantations. Renowned for its hiking, fishing and diving opportunities, our trip also gives you the chance to explore on land, by boat and underwater to thoroughly experience all that this destination offers. Regular yoga sessions with instructor Lauren Pinnoy, who has adapted a specific series of classes for paddlers called Impi (Zulu Warrior) Stretching, will have us recovered and primed for action every day.
Our 2025 Paddle Mauritius trip dates give most paddlers based in the Southern Hemisphere a chance to break up the winter and escape to a warm paddling paradise. These dates also fall within the most reliable season for trade winds, with tours starting and ending on weekends to minimise your leave time from work. Mauritius experiences mild and warm sunny days with low humidity at this time of year, with average day time temperatures between 23 to 28 degrees.
Our Paddle Mauritius trips can cater for individuals, couples, families, shared rooms, non-paddling partners and extra nights before and after the tour. We hope you can join us soon!
